OHANA

OHANA

Every year I just HAVE to go to Kona to watch the Ford Ironman World Championship. The Big Island is one of my favorite places on earth. Something about the black lava contrasting with the turquoise blue waters, the smiles of the locals, the weather, and the fact that all the people who I consider to be my extended family, all come together for celebration of the biggest endurance sports event of the year.

I’ve said it before, and I will say it again, I am one lucky girl. I get to live, work, and play all within the confines of the endurance sports community, and specifically, the triathlon community. They have become one big, extended family to me. I come back to Kona every October for the family reunion and to renew my soul. I reflect on my life and all that I have to be thankful for. This October it was no different. I came to say goodbye to some parts of my past and to embrace the new, the now, and the future. I launched Betty Designs here in October 2010, and this year made some new partnerships with key brands and athletes. All while cheering my heart out on Saturday for my inspirational friends and teammates.

As I embark on the second chapter for Gavyn and I, I have many to thank. Your support has been overwhelming and humbling. Thank you to my friends, clients, colleagues for believing in me and inspiring me—both on and off the race course. 2012 will bring some new designs (yes, the PINK LAVA kit, a design collaboration with Kestrel Bicycles), new opportunities and ways to continue to grow my Ohana. They say you don’t get to choose your family. I disagree.
