WOMEN RULE—THOUGHTS ON INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY.

As we pause to reflect on this International Women's Day 2025, I’d like to share some personal thoughts on what this day means to me as the founder of Betty Designs. When I first entered the scene in 2010, armed with a rich background in sports and nearly two decades of experience racing triathlons, I took time to think about what I truly cherished about the sport. While pushing personal boundaries was exhilarating, the greatest joy came from connecting with the community both on and off the race course.

I’ll never forget those pre-race moments—standing in T1 as the sun began to rise, nervously laughing and chatting with fellow women, trying to ease our anxiety about the challenge ahead. In those moments, we knew we weren’t in it alone. On the course, especially during those out-and-back segments when I would catch a glimpse of a familiar face, there was a sense of camaraderie that provided a brief respite from the physical toll we were enduring. In that fleeting moment, I allowed myself a smile—a small but powerful reminder that I wasn’t alone. It was a spark of reinvigoration that fueled me through the next stretch.

And then came the run—the high-fives, the surge of energy as we made our way toward the finish line. Post-race hugs, recounting our struggles, and celebrating each other’s victories always brought me back to the realization that triathlon meant far more than just crossing that finish line. It was about so much more than the pursuit of personal goals—it gave me an extended family. A family where I could embrace my true self and share my passion for triathlon with other women.

In founding Betty Designs, I hoped to extend this sense of belonging to anyone who slipped into one of my kits. Today, nearly 15 years later, though I no longer race triathlons, my love for the sport and my dedication to empowering women in endurance sports remains as strong as ever. I find just as much joy cheering on those pushing their limits, in the same way I find joy in challenging myself with new adventures.
