BRING BACK THE GOLD LAME KNICKERS

by Kristin Mayer

“You look like a dude on a bike.” Words that forever changed the way I looked at cycling clothing. Dad was not very tactful with that one. He reminded me that I always was a tomboy and therefore he could see why I took up triathlon. I may be a tomboy, but that doesn’t mean I don’t want to be feminine.

A month later I snagged a poster of World Champion mountain biker Paola Pezzo. She was not only an insane athlete, she was pretty, and when standing on the podium in her gold lamé knickers, she was a crazy mix of tough chick meets runway model.

That sparked something in me. Women can be strong AND feminine at the same time. And they don’t have to look like a boy when kicking butt.
